Providing 2nd chances to at-risk youth through culinary arts.
The school-to-prison pipeline is a national trend wherein youth are funneled out of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal legal systems. Many of these youth are Black or Brown, have disabilities, or histories of poverty, abuse, or neglect, and would benefit from additional supports and resources. Instead, they are isolated, punished, and pushed out. We all have a commitment to challenge the school-to-prison pipeline and fight for the rights of all students to receive a quality education. We believe that every child deserves a chance to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances. We are working to ensure that all students have access to the resources they need to thrive, and that schools are safe and supportive environments for learning. We will continue to fight until every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Changed By The Forkfull is an organization that provides a refuge for these children and gives them an opportunity to change their lives through culinary arts. At Changed By The Forkfull, these young people receive the support they need to heal from trauma and build positive futures. They also receive training in the culinary arts, which can help them find stable employment and build successful careers.

Every year, thousands of children in the United States are arrested and incarcerated. In 2018, 728,280 children were arrested, or one child every 43 seconds. Although this number has been steadily declining since 2009, it is still alarmingly high. Worse yet, many of these children are held in juvenile detention centers that are overcrowded and lack basic amenities. In 2017, 43,580 children were held in residential placement on a given night. Of these children, nearly 2 in 3 were placed in the most restrictive facilities. This is a grave injustice that must be rectified. Children are our future, and they deserve to be treated with compassion and care, which is exactly why Changed By The Forkfull has this mission to provide more opportunities to children that are affected by the system.
